Governor Sanwo-Olu’s Commitment to Job Creation and Economic Growth in Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his dedication to job creation and economic stability in Lagos State as the population surpasses 21 million. Speaking at the graduation ceremony for artisans and tradesmen, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the state government’s continuous efforts to empower Lagos residents with globally competitive skills, ensuring a reduction in unemployment and fostering economic resilience.
“The world is changing quickly. Technology is advancing, and the demand for innovative solutions is increasing. The skills you have acquired will help you meet these new challenges and unlock more opportunities,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “You are the backbone of our economy, creating and maintaining essential services. By excelling in your trade, you contribute to the growth and prosperity of Lagos State.”
He emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping artisans and tradesmen with essential knowledge and an innovative mindset, underscoring their vital role in driving Lagos into a new era of advancement. Over 1,200 individuals, including 800 artisans and 400 tradesmen, have received training across the three Senatorial districts.
Sanwo-Olu announced a significant increase in the annual subvention to the Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans (LASCOTA) from N12 million to N15 million and gifted the association a new bus to facilitate their operations.
Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, lauded the initiative as a testament to Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to socio-economic development. “This initiative equips artisans with critical technical and entrepreneurial skills, boosting their competitiveness and aligning with the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus development agenda,” he noted.
