Federal and Borno Governments Unite to Launch International Operations at Buhari Airport

In a groundbreaking collaboration, the Federal Government and the Borno State Government have finalized plans to upgrade the General Muhammadu Buhari International Airport to full international status. The project, set to commence operations by January 1, 2025, marks a significant milestone for the North East Zone.  

During a working visit to Maiduguri, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, alongside key aviation stakeholders, emphasized the transformative potential of the upgrade. Governor Babagana Zulum lauded the project as a symbol of resilience and growth for the region, affirming Borno State’s full cooperation to meet the scheduled launch date.  

The enhanced airport, with its world-class runway and facilities, will serve as a regional hub for international travel and cargo, driving economic development and regional connectivity. Governor Zulum and Minister Keyamo’s shared vision sets the stage for unprecedented progress in the North East, demonstrating Nigeria’s commitment to advancing its aviation infrastructure for national cohesion.
