Ogun Plans Concession Model for Gateway International Cargo Airport

The Ogun State Government is set to adopt a concession model for the management of key infrastructure at the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport, as announced by Capt. Dapo Olumide, Manager/Consultant of the project.

Located strategically along the Iperu-Ilishan Road in Ikenne Local Government, the aerotropolis is attracting interest from three prominent companies for its concession. The concession model will enable investors to develop facilities such as hotels, residential complexes, and offices within the airport’s premises, enhancing its appeal beyond traditional terminal operations.

Speaking during a tour of the facility, Capt. Olumide explained that the airport’s status as an aerotropolis offers unique revenue opportunities from cargo, housing, and commercial establishments. The airport’s location, close to Lagos, adds to its potential as a hub for business and logistics.

Ogun State Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, revealed that the airport’s infrastructure is 90% complete, with its four-kilometer runway—the longest in Nigeria—ready for operations. The terminal building is expected to be operational by January 2025, and regulatory approval for chartered flights has already been secured.

Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration continues to prioritize innovation and economic growth, with the Gateway International Airport poised to be a leading air transport and commercial hub.
