Governor Otu Advocates Support for Families of Fallen Heroes

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has called for unwavering moral and financial support for the families of fallen soldiers and retired veterans. Speaking during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day service held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Navy Barracks, Akim, Calabar, Governor Otu emphasized the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s Armed Forces for the nation’s unity and peace.

Represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, the governor highlighted the need to honor the memories of past heroes and support their families. “Their sacrifices for our sovereignty must inspire us to promote harmony and progress,” he said.

The officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Raphael Adelana, urged the Armed Forces to work towards avoiding unnecessary wars, emphasizing the importance of peace for national prosperity.

The service, attended by top government officials, military personnel, and veterans, included intercessory prayers, music by the Nigerian Navy Catholic Women, and a thanksgiving ceremony led by the deputy governor.

The event reaffirmed the state’s commitment to recognizing the contributions of its Armed Forces while fostering unity and development in the region.
