In a move aimed at maintaining peace and order, the Cross River State Government has suspended the activities of the Nkot Mbok masquerade group indefinitely, citing security concerns and the group’s failure to comply with regulatory requirements. The suspension follows the group’s continued attempt to hold an event on February 1, 2025, despite prior warnings and the lack of necessary permits.

A public service announcement from the Office of the State Security Adviser, Major General O. U. Obono (Retired), urged all concerned parties to adhere strictly to the suspension, warning that defaulters would face prosecution. Major General Obono emphasized that the suspension was necessary to prevent disruptions to public peace and maintain law and order within the state.

This action has sparked widespread attention, but it has also garnered support from notable leaders, including Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, who has called for unity among Cross Riverians. Senator Ita-Giwa, in a statement, urged the people of Cross River to support Governor Bassey Otu and his administration, emphasizing the progress made in the past year and a half under his leadership.

She reminded the citizens of Cross River of the collective effort to return power to the South in 2023, urging them to protect the gains made and continue embracing the current “season of sweetness.” Senator Ita-Giwa, citing her experience working with former Governor Donald Duke, called for collaboration between lawmakers and the governor to further enhance the state’s development.

The senator described the “Back to South” agenda as a transformative initiative, now delivering tangible results for the state’s growth. She encouraged Cross Riverians to remain united and committed to building on the positive momentum generated under Governor Otu’s leadership.

As Cross River State navigates through this period of tension, the call for unity and cooperation remains crucial in ensuring that Governor Otu’s administration continues to succeed in its mission to drive sustainable development and progress across the state.
