Sokoto State Set to Revamp Sporting Facilities to National Standards

The Sokoto State Government has unveiled plans to revitalize and modernize sporting facilities across the state to meet national standards, demonstrating a firm commitment to sports development.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Engineer Mustapha Muhammad, disclosed this during an inspection tour of sports facilities at Giginya Memorial Stadium, Sokoto. He assured that Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s administration is fully committed to investing in sports infrastructure to encourage youth development and talent discovery.
“Our goal is to ensure that all sporting facilities in Sokoto State undergo a complete transformation to meet national and international standards. His Excellency, Governor Ahmad Aliyu, is dedicated to boosting sporting activities as a vital tool for youth engagement, social cohesion, and economic development,” the commissioner stated.
The tour, conducted alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Yusuf, and other officials, included visits to key facilities such as the Giginya Stadium, basketball court, badminton court, handball court, volleyball court, gymnasium, administration block, and medical clinic.
At the Youth Development Centre, the team inspected essential infrastructure, including a conference hall, workshops, and classrooms. The commissioner assured that all necessary renovations and upgrades would be carried out to ensure that Sokoto State becomes a leading hub for sports in the country.
With these initiatives, the state government aims to create a vibrant sporting environment that will nurture athletes, attract competitions, and position Sokoto as a key player in Nigeria’s sports industry.
