Governor Idris Intervenes to Protect Rice Farmers in Shanga, Boosts Agricultural Development

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has taken swift action to protect rice farmers in Shanga Local Government Area by directing the immediate procurement and deployment of chemicals to combat a mysterious disease affecting farmlands.
During his ‘Thank You Visit’ to Shanga, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring food security. “We have received reports of a strange disease or pests attacking rice farms. Consequently, I instructed the Commissioner for Agriculture to assess the situation and approved the immediate fumigation of affected farms,” Governor Idris stated.
He assured farmers in Duggu, Gebbe, and Kukuni—key rice production hubs—that the state government would intervene swiftly to minimize losses and boost productivity. In addition to supporting agriculture, the Governor pledged to enhance infrastructure in Shanga by constructing additional roads to improve connectivity and commerce.
Governor Idris further emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to development across all sectors. He reiterated that education remains free in Kebbi State, with the government fully covering registration, tuition, examination fees, accommodation, and student upkeep allowances.
“Our government is committed to supporting parents by shouldering education expenses and ensuring students receive the best possible learning conditions,” he said. The Governor also announced an increase in students’ feeding expenditure from ₦175 million to ₦300 million and reaffirmed his commitment to distributing free fertilizers and grains to farmers.
In anticipation of Ramadan, the Governor revealed plans to distribute truckloads of food items to citizens and reiterated his administration’s support for subsidized Hajj exercises for intending pilgrims.
In a major political development, the entire PDP executive committee of Shanga Local Government, along with over 500 members, defected to the APC, further strengthening the ruling party’s presence in the state. APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, welcomed the new members, assuring them of inclusivity and equal opportunities within the party.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, demonstrated appreciation for party leaders by donating a car and motorcycles to all ward chairmen, secretaries, youth, and women leaders in recognition of their unwavering support.
