LAGESC REMOVES 650 SHANTIES BENEATH IDUMOTA BRIDGE IN OPERATION
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), alongside the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), has successfully cleared over 650 illegal shanties and shops beneath the Idumota Bridge. This operation, named #LetLagosBreathe, aimed to remove traders who were occupying the bridge’s base and causing potential safety hazards. Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (rtd) emphasized the importance of this initiative in protecting infrastructure and preventing incidents like the Apongbon Bridge fire, caused by unsafe electrical installations. He urged traders to avoid illegal structures beneath bridges and follow environmental laws. This operation is set to continue, reinforcing safety measures across Lagos.
