Governor Zulum’s Strategic Shift: Strengthening Agriculture for Economic Growth

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has announced a 90% reduction in palliative distribution, emphasizing the need for economic self-sufficiency and agricultural development in Borno State.
This decision comes as the state records significant improvements in agricultural output, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to transitioning from dependency on aid to sustainable economic empowerment.
Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of agriculture in driving economic growth, stating, “Our perseverance has reinforced my belief that agriculture is not just a means of survival—it is a powerful tool for economic empowerment. As a result, the State Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for our youth and entrepreneurs to engage in agribusiness and other productive ventures.”
The Governor’s long-term vision is to equip citizens with the means to generate income, boost food production, and reduce reliance on government support. The state is investing heavily in agricultural inputs, infrastructure, and strategic support programs to ensure sustained economic growth and development.
At the same event, Governor Zulum also rolled out food palliatives for 250,000 citizens across 27 local government areas, providing essential food support to those most affected by the 2023 flood disaster.
He acknowledged the generous support of the Federal Government, sister states, and private organizations, stating, “Their solidarity, generosity, and commitment to our people’s well-being have been a source of great encouragement.”
