The Sokoto State Government has announced a N998 million free Ramadan feeding program aimed at supporting vulnerable residents, including the poor, needy, and physically challenged individuals.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu disclosed this on Tuesday while inaugurating the Ramadan Feeding Committee, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to social welfare and humanitarian support.

Key Highlights of the Program:

• Expansion of feeding centres from 130 to 155, ensuring decongestion and wider access to meals during Ramadan.

• Daily feeding for at least 20,000 people in each of the 155 centres for the entire 30-day fasting period.

• Creation of employment opportunities for 610 women and 1,500 ad hoc staff to manage the feeding program.

• Provision of essential food items, including cooked rice with chicken, millet with bean cakes, fruits, dates, and water.

Governor Aliyu emphasized that the initiative was originally introduced by former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and that his administration is expanding and sustaining the program to reach more people.

“We urge wealthy individuals to establish free feeding centres during Ramadan to earn divine rewards and contribute to the well-being of the less privileged,” Aliyu stated.

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, commended the state government for its continuous support of religious activities, urging residents to pray against insecurity and criminality in the state and Nigeria at large.

As part of its wider social support strategy, the Sokoto State Government also:

• Distributed 990 bags of maize and N50,000 to clerics in 90 Juma’at Mosques across Sokoto.

• Provided financial assistance to 300 scholars (N200,000 each), 100 Ulamas (N100,000 each), and 2,900 Malaman Zaure (N50,000 each) across the 23 local government areas.

Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Jabir Maihula, assured that the Aliyu-led government remains committed to fulfilling its campaign promises by delivering effective governance and social welfare programs.
