In a renewed effort to curb environmental degradation, the Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, has launched a massive clampdown on illegal dredging operations, shutting down non-compliant sites and arresting suspected operators.

Leading the enforcement exercise, Commissioner Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, warned that unauthorized dredging contributes to erosion, flooding, and the destruction of public infrastructure.

“The Lagos State Government will not tolerate unregulated dredging activities that endanger lives and disrupt our coastal communities. This crackdown is part of our broader strategy to ensure sustainable development,” he emphasized.

The government reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations, urging all dredgers to adhere to legal frameworks to ensure the protection of Lagos’ coastal resources.
