0

The Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL) has intensified efforts to enhance building safety, training bricklayers, block moulders, and construction artisans on adhering to statutory building code regulations.

At a stakeholders’ forum in Ojo, LSMTL General Manager, Engr. Olayinka Abdul, stressed that non-compliance with safety standards contributes to building collapses.

“Lagos is experiencing rapid urbanization, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that all buildings meet the highest safety standards,” he stated.

The training covered critical topics, including:

• Proper materials testing for structural integrity.

• Compliance with building regulations to prevent disasters.

• Technical support services for small-scale construction businesses.

The Block Moulders Association and Bricklayers Association urged the government to support local artisans by ensuring construction contracts are awarded based on skill and quality rather than cost alone.

The workshop featured expert-led sessions on best practices in materials testing, quality control, and disaster prevention strategies.
