Kwara Government Cracks Down on Unapproved IJMB Coaching Centers to Uphold Educational Standards

The Kwara State Government has intensified efforts to curb the proliferation of unaccredited Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) coaching centers, as part of its commitment to upholding educational quality and protecting students.
At a meeting held in Ilorin, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Mary Arinde, emphasized the government’s resolve to maintain the integrity of the IJMB program, stating that only nine institutions have been officially approved to run the program.
“Unapproved centers compromise the quality of education and create a misleading pathway for students. We are taking decisive action to ensure only recognized institutions operate IJMB programs in Kwara State,” she affirmed.
She listed the officially accredited institutions, including:
• Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete
• Kwara State College of Education, Oro
• Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin
• Federal Polytechnic, Offa
• De-wise College of Basic and Remedial Studies
• Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin
• Thomas Adewumi University, Oko
• Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin
• Ojaja University, Ilorin
The Director of Continued Education, Elder Babatunde Afolayan, reaffirmed that unapproved centers will be shut down immediately, ensuring students receive quality education in line with regulatory standards.
Representatives from KWASU and other accredited institutions welcomed the decision, pledging full support in maintaining educational excellence.
This move underscores Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to raising the standard of education in Kwara State and ensuring students have access to properly regulated academic programs.
