Kogi State Government’s Proactive Measures Against Illegal Mining Yield Positive Results
The Kogi State Government, led by Governor Yahaya Bello, has taken decisive action against illegal mining operations in Ankpa Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of 10 illegal miners and the confiscation of over 50 trucks transporting coal illegally.
Bashiru Gegu, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing federal policies and revenue generation. He emphasized the need for miners to adhere to government regulations and urged illegal mining activities to cease immediately to avoid legal consequences.
Elder Friday Sani Makama, Director General of Kogi State Special Task Force on illegal Smuggling of Firearms and Related Crimes, emphasized Governor Yahaya Bello’s determination to curb illegal mining, ensuring that all miners operate within legal frameworks to protect the state’s natural resources.
