The Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport in Ilishan-Remo is nearing full commercial launch following a successful inspection and validation exercise by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The airport, a flagship project of Governor Dapo Abiodun, is 97% complete and designed to transform Ogun State into a regional aviation and trade hub.

During the inspection, NAMA’s Flight Calibration team conducted technical checks on the 4-kilometre runway—the longest in Nigeria—along with the airport’s navigational and safety systems. The agency praised the facility as “impressive and ready to accommodate diversions from Lagos, Ibadan, and Ilorin.”

According to Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the airport is equipped with modern terminals, advanced control towers, and systems for cargo handling and logistics. With commercial charter operations already underway, the airport is poised to create over 25,000 jobs, support agro-processing, and boost Ogun’s economic diversification through regional and international trade.
