In a bid to further transform healthcare infrastructure in Nasarawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule has successfully commissioned the newly upgraded twin pharma-grade warehouses at the Nasarawa State Drug and Health Commodities Management Agency (NASDSMA) complex in Lafia. This project, now ranked by the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) as the 3rd best pharmaceutical warehouse in Nigeria, is a testament to the Governor’s dedication to revolutionizing healthcare delivery and combating substandard medicines.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Sule reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to leaving lasting legacies in the health sector. “Today is a reflection of our promise to make Nasarawa better than we found it,” he stated, emphasizing that the newly upgraded facility ensures that medications are stored under optimal conditions, addressing the critical issue of poorly stored drugs, which could be more harmful than expired ones.

Tracing the history of the facility, Governor Sule highlighted that the concept of a medication warehouse was initiated during the tenure of the state’s first executive governor, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. However, it was not until the administration of former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura that the building was completed and put to use. Governor Sule’s administration took it further with the creation of the law that brought about the establishment of the current agency, which now manages the state-of-the-art warehouse.

The Governor also credited the success of the project to the culture of collaboration within his administration. “When I don’t have the knowledge, I step aside and empower those with the expertise to take charge. That’s how we achieve our goals,” he noted, assuring stakeholders that his administration would continue to maintain the facility.

Governor Sule thanked Jawa Limited and the PCN for their invaluable support, promising that his administration would do everything possible to ensure the continued functionality of the warehouse. He also expressed confidence that the project would sustain its positive impact on healthcare delivery in Nasarawa State, ensuring safe and effective access to medications.

Reassuring the public about the sustainability of the project, Governor Sule addressed concerns from the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, about future administrations potentially dismantling progress. “I am not going anywhere. Even if I am not here in two years, I will ensure that the good work continues,” he assured.

Highlighting Nasarawa State’s remarkable progress, Governor Sule pointed out that the state was making strides not only in healthcare but across multiple sectors, with development partners such as the World Bank recognizing Nasarawa’s achievements. He also celebrated the state’s leading role in the NG-Cares program, securing substantial funding that further demonstrates the state’s commitment to growth and development.
