Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a prosperous Sokoto State by focusing on a motivated, productive, and efficient workforce. In his address on Workers’ Day, the Governor appealed to civil servants to respond to the government’s efforts by demonstrating punctuality, dedication, discipline, transparency, and responsibility in their work.

Governor Aliyu highlighted the importance of collective effort in realizing the state’s vision for inclusive growth, equity, and efficient service delivery. He expressed gratitude to the workforce for their hard work, resilience, and continuous support, emphasizing that their commitment is crucial to Sokoto’s progress.

“Together, we will build a Sokoto that works for all,” he said, wishing the workers a joyous and fulfilling Workers’ Day.

The Governor also shared several key measures undertaken by his administration to improve the welfare of civil servants. These measures include the prompt payment of salaries, with workers now receiving pay between the 19th and 20th of each month, a significant improvement from the previous administration.

In line with his administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusion, Governor Aliyu announced the full implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage for all civil servants, including local government workers and primary school teachers. He also revealed that a N30,000 “Goron Sallah” bonus had been paid to all civil servants to cushion the impact of economic challenges during festive periods.

Additionally, the Governor disclosed the ongoing payment of a N15 billion backlog of gratuities owed to retirees since 2016, with N500 million released monthly to settle the arrears, and an additional N300 million allocated for retirees from 2023 onwards.

The administration has also prioritized civil service reforms, restoring previously canceled allocations, boosting morale, and ensuring that civil servants whose career progression was previously stalled have been placed on their appropriate grade levels.

To further support civil servants, Governor Aliyu announced plans to reclaim and redevelop previously sold-off low-cost housing units, alongside the construction of 1,500 new houses to provide affordable housing for workers. The “Shagon Sauki na Ahmadun Alu” initiative was also introduced, offering essential commodities at subsidized rates to help ease economic pressures.

Governor Aliyu’s remarks reflect his administration’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of Sokoto State’s workforce and laying a strong foundation for the state’s growth.
