Ondo Leads Nigeria in Debt Reduction Under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Fiscal Discipline

Ondo State has emerged as the nation’s leading example of fiscal responsibility, recording an unprecedented 82.6% reduction in domestic debt within one year under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa. This remarkable achievement underscores the governor’s commitment to financial prudence and sustainable governance.
According to recent figures from the Debt Management Office, Ondo slashed its debt from ₦74 billion in 2023 to ₦12 billion in 2024—a ₦61 billion reduction. The state also cleared significant backlog obligations, including salaries and gratuities, thereby restoring public trust and investor confidence in government.
Governor Aiyedatiwa implemented cost-saving measures without disrupting public services or compromising worker welfare. By prioritizing economic reforms and fiscal integrity, Ondo State now stands as a model for subnational governments across Nigeria. This financial turnaround reflects the governor’s leadership and vision for responsible public administration.
