Governor Alia Delivers Again: NUC Approves New State University for Benue

In a remarkable milestone for Benue State under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a new state university—Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology—in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area. This historic development affirms Governor Alia’s commitment to expanding access to quality higher education in the state.
The provisional licence was presented to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu. He emphasized that the university, now the second state-owned in Benue and the 68th in Nigeria, will be instrumental in shaping the future of agriculture, science, and innovation nationwide. “This institution will stand as a beacon of quality assurance, character development, and academic excellence,” Ribadu noted.
Governor Alia, in his remarks, described the approval as a watershed moment that underscores the state’s long-standing educational ambition. “Benue’s passion for learning and progress is deep-rooted. We are fully committed to providing the infrastructure, manpower, and vision to actualize the full potential of this institution,” he affirmed. With this bold step, Governor Alia continues to position Benue as a hub of educational excellence and socio-economic advancement.
