Governor Malam Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has reaffirmed his administration’s bold development agenda in a landmark session with the Forum of Jigawa Academics, highlighting significant achievements in agriculture, infrastructure, education, health, and power. The session, held at Government House Banquet Hall, marked a pivotal moment of reflection and accountability as the administration nears its second anniversary.

Governor Namadi outlined transformative programs such as the Rice Millionaires Programme, Agricultural Support Scheme for Civil Servants, and the J-AGRO initiative that aims to cultivate 500,000 hectares by 2030—producing up to 50% of Nigeria’s rice demand. Institutions like the State Agricultural Transformation Agency and the Jigawa Farm Mechanization Company, along with the commissioning of the Lallashi Borehole-Based Irrigation Scheme, underscore his agricultural revolution.

In infrastructure, the Governor announced 46 new road projects spanning nearly 978 kilometers worth over ₦304 billion—unprecedented in the state’s history—while 23 of 26 inherited roads have been completed. Reforms in the power sector include a new electricity law, a state-owned stake in KEDCO, and a partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). With over one-third of the state’s budget allocated to education and healthcare, Governor Namadi reiterated his commitment to transforming human capital. “Jigawa’s journey to greatness is anchored on accountability, service, and investment in the people,” he declared.
