Akure Residents Applaud Governor Aiyedatiwa for Road Rehabilitation Projects

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has received widespread praise from residents of Akure for his administration’s extensive road rehabilitation and infrastructural renewal projects.

On Wednesday, the governor inspected completed and ongoing roadworks across the state capital , reaffirming his commitment to urban renewal and infrastructural development.

Among the roads visited were:

  •  Iloro-Owe Akala Street
  •  Iro-Odopetu Road
  • Alafiatayo-Odole-Odi-Olowo Road – all nearing completion.

The Governor, accompanied by Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, and Akure South Local Government Chairman, Dr. Gbenga Fasua, was warmly received by excited residents, who hailed his efforts in rescuing long-neglected roads.

Many residents expressed gratitude, noting that some of these roads had been abandoned for decades, making life difficult for commuters.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Vision for Ondo State’s Infrastructure

During the tour, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s strategic approach to road rehabilitation, stating:

Urban Renewal: “We are implementing 60 kilometers of road construction across the state—20 kilometers per senatorial district. Akure, as the capital, is crucial, but we are also actively working in the North and South districts.”

 Agricultural Development: “Oda Road is a major 7.8-kilometer stretch that is essential for both residents and farmers. In addition, a 7-kilometer extension is underway, linking farm settlements to the city through the Rural Access and Agriculture Marketing Program (RAAMP).”

Key Ongoing Projects:

• Shagari-Onyearugbulem Flyover – 70% complete, expected commissioning in two months.

• Ijoka Road Rehabilitation – 8.1-kilometer stretch nearing completion.

• Odopetu Road Upgrade – critical urban link road improvement.

The Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Gbenga Fasua, described the rehabilitation projects as transformational, emphasizing that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership has significantly improved road networks across Akure and beyond.
