Benue Government Elevates Civil Service Through Capacity Building

The Benue State Government, under Governor Hyacinth Alia’s leadership, is prioritizing civil service reforms to enhance governance efficiency. Through the Benue Civil Service Institute, the state is implementing targeted training programs and strategic partnerships to equip public officials with modern administrative skills.
The Institute’s Director of Research and Publication, Dr. Mark Nyitse, highlighted these initiatives in Makurdi, emphasizing that Governor Alia strongly believes that a well-trained civil service is crucial for effective policy execution. In alignment with this vision, the institute has already trained the newly elected 23 Local Government Chairmen, ensuring they are adequately prepared for governance responsibilities.
To further strengthen governance, plans are underway to organize a national conference on homeland security, bringing together experts to develop strategies for tackling security challenges in the state and beyond. Additionally, the institute is collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to train government drivers and introduce digital skills training for young people.
The institute also oversees civil service promotion examinations and conducts pre-retirement training, ensuring that civil servants transition smoothly into post-service life. With its mandate extending beyond Benue, the institute serves neighboring states, including Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi, and the FCT, reinforcing Governor Alia’s commitment to institutional excellence.
Governor Alia’s administration remains focused on strengthening governance, security, and public administration, positioning Benue as a model for civil service efficiency and development.
