Borno Government and Partners Deliver Lifeline to Maiduguri Flood Victims

The Borno State Government, in collaboration with the Centre for Advocacy Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), Oxfam, and the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA), has provided critical relief to over 3,000 households affected by recent flooding in Maiduguri.
Speaking during the distribution of relief items, Baba Gujubawu, Chairman of the State Flood Relief Disbursement Committee, lauded the efforts of these organizations in bringing much-needed assistance to vulnerable residents. Represented by Surajo Garba, Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency for Borno and Yobe States, Gujubawu emphasized the impact of collective support in addressing the disaster.
“The generosity of CATAI, Oxfam, and DRA is a testament to Nigeria’s compassionate spirit. Their intervention will help over 3,000 women and other vulnerable groups rebuild their lives,” Garba stated.
Sadiq Abubakar, Executive Director of CATAI, described the flooding as devastating and beyond the capacity of the government alone to manage. “Our joint efforts aim to reach approximately 5,000 flood victims across Borno and Yobe States,” Abubakar noted.
Relief packages included cooking pots, solar lamps, blankets, mosquito nets, mats, and cash assistance, with special provisions for women-headed households and people with disabilities. Over 2,000 households in Yobe State also received multipurpose cash assistance to help them address immediate needs.
Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Dutch Relief Alliance and Oxfam for their invaluable contributions to the intervention.
This collaboration underscores the power of partnerships in tackling humanitarian crises, offering a lifeline to flood victims and setting the stage for recovery and resilience in affected communities.
