Borno Government Intensifies Monthly Sanitation for a Cleaner, Healthier State

In a renewed push for environmental hygiene and public health, the Borno State Government, under the proactive leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, intensified the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Maiduguri and surrounding communities. The May 3rd activity was led by the Ministry of Environment’s Permanent Secretary, Comrade Dr. Juliana Bitrus, and the General Manager of BOSEPA, Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman.
The team traversed multiple areas to enforce compliance and assess public participation, which they described as highly encouraging. The campaign emphasized the importance of community ownership, with residents urged to maintain cleanliness in their immediate surroundings. “Cleanliness is next to godliness,” noted the General Manager, underscoring the administration’s moral and civic appeal.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to environmental safety, Dr. Bitrus warned against non-compliance, especially among roadside traders. The government, she said, is determined to support residents while upholding law and order. The presence of BOTMA, environmental officers, and security agencies at the exercise signals a whole-of-government approach to environmental health.
