Canaan Queens Shine in African Table Tennis Championship, Governor Otu Celebrates Victory

Cross River’s Canaan Queens have brought pride to Nigeria, securing a Bronze medal at the prestigious African Table Tennis Club Championship in Tunisia. Their remarkable performance highlights the state’s growing dominance in the sport and reinforces Nigeria’s strong presence on the continental stage.
The wife of the state Governor, Bishop Eyoawan Otu, celebrated the team’s success, commending their resilience, hard work, and determination. In a statement addressed to the Chairman of Canaan Table Tennis Club on Tuesday, she emphasized the significance of the victory as an inspiration for young girls across Nigeria.
“The Canaan Table Tennis Club has made us proud once again. Their performance in Tunisia is not just a victory for Cross River State but for the entire nation. As someone deeply passionate about the empowerment of the girl child, I am particularly inspired by the Canaan Queens, who have demonstrated that with determination and hard work, girls can achieve greatness in any field,” she said.
Chairman of the Canaan Table Tennis Club, Rt. Hon. Orok Duke, also praised the players for their outstanding performance, stating that their achievement further cements Nigeria’s place among the top-performing nations in table tennis and other sports.
He extended his appreciation to Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his unwavering support, acknowledging that the encouragement provided by the state government played a crucial role in motivating the players.
The Canaan Queens are set to return home after a successful week-long competition in Tunisia, bringing with them yet another milestone in Cross River’s sporting excellence.
