Kebbi State has secured a major international partnership with the Government of Canada, which has committed 15 million Canadian dollars (approximately $10.7 million USD) to support reproductive health and nutrition services in the state—further solidifying Governor Nasir Idris’ drive for health system transformation.

Speaking at a training workshop in Birnin Kebbi, UNICEF Chief Field Officer in Sokoto, Mr. Michael Juma, said the funding—delivered through UNICEF and implemented by Kebbi’s Primary Health Centres (PHCs)—aims to improve access to gender-responsive healthcare for women, adolescent girls, and children.

Juma commended Governor Idris for his decisive steps in strengthening the healthcare workforce, including the recent recruitment of 500 health professionals. Canadian Health Manager, Mr. Martin Dohlsten, noted that Kebbi is one of only three states selected for this five-year maternal and newborn health program. The initiative will help the state move closer to achieving universal health coverage and ensure no child is left behind.
