Deputy Governor Hamzat Calls for Spiritual Reflection at UNILAG Ramadan Lecture

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Muslims to use Ramadan as a period of self-reflection, devotion, and service to humanity, emphasizing that true transformation comes from aligning one’s actions with the will of Allah.
Speaking as the Keynote Speaker at the 30th Pre-Ramadan Lecture, organized by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni (UMA) at J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, UNILAG, Dr. Hamzat noted:
• Muslims must extend the impact of Ramadan beyond fasting, reflecting on their faith in their daily actions.
• Religious teachings should align with local societal values, fostering moral and ethical growth in communities.
• Technological advancements and global challenges demand that humanity adapts while maintaining core values.
Delivering a lecture on “Islam and the Interception of Humanity and Religion,” Prof. Moshood Baderin stressed that Islam advocates for justice, good governance, and social welfare. He called for a balance between religious faith and service to humanity, ensuring that Ramadan serves as a transformative period.
In her remarks, UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folashade Ogunmola, represented by Prof. Bola Oboh, reiterated that Ramadan’s lessons should translate into national development, as Nigeria navigates a critical period in its history.
The event highlighted the importance of religious and social responsibility, reinforcing faith-based contributions to national progress.
