Ebonyi Governor Rewards Workers with N10,000 May Day Bonus, Pledges Continued Support
In a heartfelt show of appreciation, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced a ₦10,000 bonus for all state workers in celebration of the 2025 Workers’ Day. Speaking during the May Day event in Abakaliki, the governor described the workers as the “engine room” of government and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to their welfare.
The event, themed “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship”, was a moment of solidarity and renewed purpose. Governor Nwifuru praised the workforce for their dedication and called for stronger partnerships between the government and workers to build a better, more inclusive Ebonyi. “Under my watch, workers will remain symbols of excellence,” he said.
In their joint address, leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ebonyi commended the governor, particularly for implementing the ₦75,000 minimum wage. They also presented a list of pressing requests, including increased housing support, pension adjustments for retirees, and the deployment of shuttle buses to the state secretariat.
