The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has emphasized the need for grassroots developmental structures that will empower women and promote sustainable progress in Edo State.

Speaking at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Benin City, during the inauguration of the planning committee for the 2025 International Women’s Day, Mrs. Anani called on women to develop actionable plans that extend beyond annual celebrations, focusing on long-term impact.

“This is a time for women to unite, strategize, and take bold steps towards shaping the future. We are the backbone of the economy, and our role in governance and community development cannot be overstated,” she stated.

Mrs. Anani encouraged women to work towards economic independence, leadership representation, and societal contributions beyond election cycles. She stressed that unity among women is essential for driving meaningful change, adding that fragmentation weakens collective progress.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi, highlighted the ministry’s commitment to combating gender-based violence, supporting vulnerable groups, and increasing opportunities for women in various sectors, including farming, industrial production, carpentry, and construction.

The ministry also announced plans to assign 192 young women to work across the state’s 192 wards, collaborating with local authorities to address pressing community needs. Additionally, a statewide database will be developed to track and report issues affecting women, ensuring regular updates for Governor Okpebholo.

With these initiatives, the Edo State Government is fostering an environment where women play an active role in governance, economic development, and social transformation.
