…Partners with Global Experts to Promote Sustainable Agriculture

The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionizing agriculture by adopting regenerative agricultural practices and agroecology to drive food security and environmental sustainability.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Peter Osagie, announced this at a two-day workshop on the Regenerative and Agro-ecological Landscape Acceleration Facility (RALAF) held at the Agriculture Hub in Benin City. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with global best practices and environmental sustainability standards, ensuring long-term benefits for farmers and the economy.

Dr. Osagie highlighted that Edo State has been selected as the pilot state for RALAF in Nigeria, a recognition of the government’s proactive policies in agriculture. He assured stakeholders that the state government would work closely with the initiative’s team to ensure a seamless and successful implementation.

“Regenerative agroecology focuses on protecting, preserving, and managing ecosystems sustainably. Our government remains committed to ensuring that agriculture not only boosts our economy but also safeguards the environment for future generations,” he stated.

He noted that sustainable agriculture is essential for addressing climate change and reducing carbon emissions. Edo State’s partnership with RALAF and its global development partners is expected to attract private sector investment, enhancing productivity and resilience in the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Steven Lang, Managing Director of Pollination, an international advisory firm specializing in climate and nature solutions, lauded Edo State’s commitment to leading Nigeria’s agro-ecological transition. He explained that RALAF is a Green Climate Fund-backed initiative designed to scale up regenerative agricultural landscapes across sub-Saharan Africa.

The workshop was attended by key stakeholders, including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Development Program (ADP), and representatives from various government agencies.
