Ekiti Knowledge Zone: Governor Oyebanji Anchors Growth on Innovation and Intellectual Capital

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s economy through the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ), a strategic initiative designed to harness the intellectual strength of Ekiti people to drive prosperity and sustainable development.

Speaking during a supervisory mission by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and theFederal Ministry of Finance, Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the EKZ is rooted in Ekiti’s renowned academic excellence and is poised to become a hub for knowledge-based industries in Nigeria. He noted that the zone is not an accidental project but a deliberate investment in Ekiti’s reputation as the “Knowledge Capital of Nigeria.”

“The Ekiti Knowledge Zone will be a game changer for our state and the country. It represents one of the enduring legacies of continuity in governance, and we are committed to ensuring it delivers on its full promise,” the Governor said. He urged AfDB to consider reviewing its procurement policy to prioritize quality, sustainability, and long-term impact over lowest cost.

AfDB’s Chief Development Economist, Ms. Rosemond Offei-Awuku, and Federal Ministry of Finance representative, Dr. Oyebola Akande, both expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project. They commended Governor Oyebanji’s visionary leadership and pledged continued support, noting that the EKZ will serve as a central pillar for innovation, research, and economic advancement in Nigeria and beyond.
