The Federal Government is set to establish a Pilot Soil Assessment Laboratory in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, a move aimed at significantly improving the livelihoods of farmers across the state. The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade, who highlighted that this groundbreaking initiative would allow farmers to test the soil quality of their farmlands within the state, eliminating the need for long trips to private labs in Ibadan or even Kenya.

This collaboration between the state government and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture is the first of its kind in Southwest Nigeria. The lab is expected to enhance the state’s agricultural capabilities, offering farmers valuable data to improve crop yields. Additionally, the project opens avenues for partnerships with universities and polytechnics specializing in Soil Science, providing farmers with world-class services.

Commending President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its support, Commissioner Boluwade highlighted that Governor Oyebanji’s administration has already made significant strides in transforming Ekiti into a food hub, with major investments in rural infrastructure, youth engagement in agriculture, and the distribution of farming inputs. The establishment of the soil lab further solidifies Ekiti’s position as a leader in agricultural innovation and sustainability.
