In a landmark move towards strengthening healthcare access for tertiary students, the Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Gombe State University (GSU) to kickstart the Tertiary Institution Students Health Insurance Programme (TSHIP).

This milestone agreement sets the stage for the formal enrollment of students into the program, reinforcing GoHealth’s commitment to ensuring affordable and quality healthcare services for students across the state.

The signing ceremony follows an earlier stakeholder engagement, where representatives from Gombe State University, the College of Education Billiri, and other key institutions collaborated on adopting the TSHIP guidelines.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Abubakar Musa, Team Lead of GoHealth, reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to providing world-class healthcare services within the university.

“We are committed to ensuring that the healthcare services provided within the university are of high quality and can compete with the best available anywhere in the country,” Dr. Musa assured.

He further commended the Vice Chancellor and university officials for their active participation in shaping the TSHIP framework and called for the immediate establishment of a TSHIP Committee within the institution.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) applauded the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with global best practices in student healthcare. He assured GoHealth of the university’s readiness to comply with all necessary regulations for the program’s success.

With the MoU now signed, GoHealth is set to commence the enrollment process, marking a significant step toward structured healthcare coverage for tertiary students in Gombe State.

This initiative aligns with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s vision of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which prioritizes equitable healthcare access for all residents. The successful rollout at GSU is expected to serve as a model for other tertiary institutions, ensuring students can focus on their education without concerns about medical care.
