Gombe Government Takes Stand Against Child Abuse, Advocates for Comprehensive Protection
The Gombe State Government, spearheaded by Commissioner Asma’u Muhammad Iganus of Women Affairs and Social Development, reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing strict measures against child abuse following the enactment of the Child Rights Act into law by Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya. Emphasizing the seriousness of this commitment, Iganus vowed that perpetrators of child abuse would face legal consequences.
In her efforts to combat child abuse, Iganus urged all stakeholders to unite in this cause. Specifically, she highlighted the need for farmers to discontinue the practice of engaging girls in farm work, labeling it as child labor that requires immediate cessation. Additionally, she encouraged traditional and religious leaders to lend their support to the fight against child abuse within their communities.
