The Gombe State Security Council has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while reinforcing the state’s reputation as a peaceful and secure region. This resolution followed an expanded security meeting held at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Gombe, chaired by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau.

The Council extensively reviewed the state’s security situation, focusing on seasonal issues such as farmers-herders conflicts and cattle rustling. While Gombe remains relatively peaceful compared to other regions, the Council acknowledged the need for sustained efforts to address emerging threats.

“Although security in the state is commendable, increased cattle rustling, kidnappings, and the influx of criminal elements from neighboring states pose significant challenges,” the Council stated.

To mitigate these issues, the Council pledged to strengthen the farmers-herders committee and intensify security patrols across the state. Traditional rulers, federal security agencies, local hunters, and vigilante groups were commended for their roles in tackling security challenges.

Recognizing the link between drug abuse and violent crimes, the Council called for heightened efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse. Residents were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

Deputy Governor Jatau expressed appreciation for the cooperation of security stakeholders, traditional rulers, and the public in maintaining peace. “Collaboration between government, security agencies, and the public is essential for sustaining Gombe’s status as a haven of peace,” he emphasized.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi; Chief of Staff; commissioners; heads of security agencies; local government chairmen; and traditional rulers. The Council pledged to remain proactive in addressing the state’s evolving security needs.
