GOV. ALIYU ASSURES PAYMENT OF N15 BILLION BACKLOG OF GRATUITIES FOR RETIREES

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to clearing the N15 billion backlog of gratuities owed to retirees since 2016. During the Workers’ Day celebration at Giginya Stadium, Gov. Aliyu announced that his government has begun monthly payments of N500 million to address this backlog, with an additional N300 million allocated for those who retired in 2023 and beyond. He emphasized that by the end of his tenure, no retiree would be left unpaid.

In his speech, Gov. Aliyu also outlined other measures to improve workers’ welfare, including the prompt payment of salaries, the full implementation of the new national minimum wage for all civil servants, and the payment of N30,000 Sallah gifts to all workers. Additionally, he highlighted efforts to address stagnated promotions and enhance civil servants’ skills through training programs.

Gov. Aliyu also revealed plans to build 1,500 houses for workers and introduce “Sauki shops,” where civil servants will be able to purchase essential goods at subsidized rates. Reflecting on the support from the state’s workforce, the Governor expressed confidence in their commitment to his administration.

The state NLC Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Jangle, praised the Governor for fulfilling the workers’ demands promptly, adding that the Governor’s efforts have significantly boosted workers’ morale and created a more efficient civil service.
