Gov. Oyebanji Celebrates Ekiti Workers’ Dedication, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare and Economic Progress

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has lauded the unyielding commitment, resilience, and patriotic spirit of the state’s workforce, describing them as the foundation upon which the socio-economic and developmental strides of the state are built.

Speaking during the 2025 May Day Celebration at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, the Governor paid glowing tributes to workers in both public and private sectors, acknowledging their instrumental role in driving economic growth and sustaining good governance. He described workers as the “backbone of the state’s prosperity.”

Governor Oyebanji highlighted several bold initiatives undertaken by his administration to improve workers’ welfare and revitalize the public service. These include the recruitment of over 1,500 primary school teachers and 930 secondary school teachers, employment of 48 education officers, career progression approval up to grade level 16 for primary school teachers, infrastructure upgrades, and comprehensive capacity development programs.

Additionally, his government has disbursed over ₦400 million in house and vehicle loans to 1,447 teaching and non-teaching staff, alongside the implementation and payment of the new minimum wage. He emphasized that all these initiatives are part of a broader vision to restore dignity to workers and create a fair and rewarding work environment.

In her remarks, the Head of Service, Dr. Folakemi Olomojobi, commended the Governor’s cordial relationship with labour unions and affirmed that the increased minimum wage under his leadership has significantly improved the standard of living for workers and their families.

Labour leaders present, including NLC Chairman Comrade Kolapo Olatunde and TUC Chairman Comrade Sola Adigun, praised Governor Oyebanji’s exceptional responsiveness and human-centered governance. They acknowledged his proactive policies which include the defrayment of salary arrears, provision of palliative transportation for workers and students, and continuous infrastructural development across sectors.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to open dialogue with labour unions, calling for synergy and mutual understanding to develop policies that tackle economic challenges and foster accountability. “We will continue to explore innovative avenues that improve the lives of our people,” he assured.

Dignitaries present at the event included Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Bolaji Olagbaju, members of the State Executive Council, and leaders of organized labour. ________________________________________
