Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has reiterated his unwavering support for the nation’s security agencies, emphasizing the importance of enhanced operational readiness to tackle rising security challenges. Speaking during the flag-off of the Nigerian Navy’s Year 2025 Small Arms Firing Exercise and Range Classification in Akure, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed his confidence in the armed forces’ ability to confront the escalating security threats in the country.

The governor commended the Nigerian Navy for selecting Ondo State as the host for this crucial exercise, noting that such events play a significant role in boosting the military’s operational capabilities. He emphasized that the recent rise in criminal activities, including kidnapping and banditry, underscores the necessity of continuous training and preparedness for all security agencies.

In his speech, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the strategic importance of the exercise, stating that it goes beyond being a routine practice. Instead, it is an essential component of strengthening Nigeria’s national security architecture amid growing challenges. He also acknowledged the dedication and professionalism of the Navy, expressing gratitude for their relentless efforts in securing the nation.

“The exercise we are witnessing today is a testament to the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to excellence,” Aiyedatiwa said. “It provides an avenue for the Navy personnel to sharpen their skills, improve precision, and enhance operational effectiveness, ensuring a more secure environment for all Nigerians.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa also commended the officers of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda for their vigilance and the success they have achieved in preventing pipeline vandalism in the region. He assured the security agencies of his administration’s continued support, pledging to provide necessary logistics and resources to further strengthen their operational capacity.

“We recognize the sacrifices made by our security personnel to ensure our safety. Ondo State remains committed to partnering with you in enhancing security across the state,” he added.

Earlier, Captain Aliyu Usman, the Commanding Officer of the Forward Operating Base Igbokoda, acknowledged the significance of the exercise, describing it as an excellent opportunity to test the skills of personnel using live ammunition. He noted that Ondo State’s generally peaceful environment rarely affords such opportunities for training and expressed confidence that the exercise would lead to improved weapon proficiency and greater security efficiency.

“By the end of this exercise, we expect to see a reduction in risks of accidental discharges and enhanced efficiency in securing our communities,” Captain Usman said.

With this renewed commitment, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration continues to work closely with security forces, ensuring a collaborative effort towards maintaining peace and stability in Ondo State and the nation at large.
