Governor Aiyedatiwa Revives Abandoned Banquet Complex in Ondo’s Urban Renewal Drive

As part of his urban regeneration agenda, Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has approved the revitalization of the long-abandoned Modern Banquet Complex located in Alagbaka, Akure. The project, which was initiated in 2004 under former Governor Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has remained uncompleted since 2007.
Speaking during an inspection visit, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Abiola Olawoye, stated that the administration is reviewing the project’s original contract components to determine its structural integrity and future use.
“With the ongoing urban renewal initiatives in the Alagbaka GRA, completing this landmark project is now a priority. We are clearing the site and preparing for an integrity test to ensure safe continuation,” Olawoye said.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s administration has made it clear that abandoned public structures will no longer be tolerated, as they represent wasted resources and missed development opportunities. The revived banquet complex is expected to serve as a vibrant public facility once completed.
