Governor Aliyu Reaffirms Commitment to Moral Reform and Mosque Development in Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has restated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on the sale and distribution of liquor and other intoxicants across the state. Speaking during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Shagari Jumu’at Mosque, the Governor lauded the Hisbah Board’s proactive enforcement actions, including recent confiscations and public destruction of prohibited substances.
Governor Aliyu emphasized that the Hisbah Corps would continue its operations within the bounds of the law and with due respect for citizens’ rights. He called on the public to support the agency’s efforts in fostering a morally upright and disciplined society. “Our goal is to build a value-driven society grounded in peace, development, and spiritual growth,” he added.
He further revealed that 63 Jumu’at Mosques are currently under renovation across the state, with the government providing monthly stipends for Imams, deputies, and Muazzins. The Governor urged community leaders to ensure the proper upkeep of the new facilities. The event also featured remarks from former Deputy Governor Barrister Mukhtar Shagari and Prof. Sambo Wali Junaid, who commended Governor Aliyu’s infrastructural investments and vision for faith-based development in Sokoto State.
