Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his commitment to fiscal accountability and worker welfare, announcing the recovery of misappropriated Sallah bonuses originally earmarked for civil servants during the 2024 Eid-el-Adha celebrations.

In 2024, the Governor approved ₦30,000 Sallah bonus for all state civil servants, but portions of the disbursement meant for local government staff and primary school teachers were reportedly diverted by some finance officials. Governor Aliyu expressed strong dismay at the breach and directed swift recovery and payment to affected workers.

Speaking at the 2025 May Day celebrations in Sokoto, the Governor confirmed that the diverted funds had been fully recovered and assured timely payment to rightful beneficiaries. While workers commend the recovery, many citizens urge further action to ensure that those responsible for the diversion face justice—to reinforce a culture of deterrence and uphold the integrity of public service.
