Governor Bago Urges National Dialogue on Poverty, Illiteracy as Root Causes of Insecurity

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has called for deliberate, collaborative actions across all levels of government to tackle poverty and illiteracy, which he identified as key drivers of insecurity. He made the remarks while receiving members of Syndicate 5 from the Executive Intelligence Management Course 18 of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), Abuja.
Governor Bago emphasized that addressing the root causes of insecurity requires strategic investment in education, skills development, and sustainable livelihoods. “We must empower our people through knowledge and economic opportunity if we are serious about tackling insecurity,” he said. He described the team’s visit to Niger as timely, particularly given the security challenges in some parts of the state.
The delegation, led by R.A. Bolarinwa, is part of a 78-member national cohort undergoing training in security and intelligence management. Bolarinwa commended Governor Bago’s proactive initiatives and disclosed that the group’s findings would contribute to national security discourse at upcoming regional and international forums. The visit further reinforces Niger’s visibility as a forward-thinking state invested in long-term peace and development.
