In line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope food security initiative, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, CON, has directed the immediate commencement of subsidized rice sales to 6,000 civil servants across the state. This intervention comes in response to the rising cost of food and aims to provide critical economic relief to Yobe’s workforce.

The distribution of 6,000 bags of 50kg rice, delivered under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national food security initiative, will begin with state civil servants, who will each be eligible to purchase a bag at a highly subsidized price of ₦40,000. A high-level stakeholders’ meeting—chaired by Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), and involving agencies such as the EFCC, ICPC, NEMA, SEMA, the Police, and NSCDC Agro-Rangers—finalized transparent distribution modalities.

According to the agreed structure, 70% (4,200 bags) will go to state civil servants and organized private sector workers, while 30% (1,800 bags) will be allocated to Federal MDAs and parastatals in Yobe. Beneficiaries will be screened at the SEMA office, using valid staff IDs and NIN to ensure accountability. Governor Buni’s directive reinforces his Early Recovery and Post-Conflict Development Agenda and reflects his unwavering commitment to equitable social welfare and economic stability in the state.
