Governor Buni Inaugurates Capacity Building Program for Yobe Climate Change Council

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni (CON), has formally declared open a five-day capacity-building program for the Yobe State Council on Climate Change, Erosion, and Restoration (YOCCCER) Technical Working Committee in Abuja.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Malam Wali (mni), who also serves as the Chairman of the committee, Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The training program, organized in collaboration with Milestone Centre, is part of Yobe State’s proactive strategy to mitigate the impact of climate change. Governor Buni has consistently championed policies aimed at improving environmental governance and sustainability, ensuring that climate action remains a priority in the state’s development agenda.
“This capacity-building program is designed to equip members of the technical working team with essential skills to effectively implement their mandate. Strengthening institutional knowledge and technical expertise is key to achieving our climate change mitigation and adaptation goals,” the Governor stated.
The establishment of YOCCCER underscores Yobe State’s commitment to tackling climate-related challengesand integrating sustainability into infrastructure development and social policies.
The opening ceremony attracted a distinguished audience, including:
- Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA)
- Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance and Stakeholder Engagement
- Australia’s Second Secretary of the High Commission
- Representatives from the Middle East Charity Foundation
- Heads of United Nations programs and development partners
They commended Yobe State’s leadership in climate action and pledged continued collaboration and support to drive sustainable development in the state.
Mr. Lawan Ahmed, CEO of Milestone Centre for Sustainable Development and Food Security, praised Governor Buni’s visionary leadership, noting that laying a strong foundation through capacity building will enhance the state’s climate resilience efforts.
