Governor Buni’s Bold Irrigation Project Transforms Agriculture and Tackles Flooding in Damaturu

In a groundbreaking effort to empower farmers, create jobs, and combat seasonal flooding, Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, is spearheading a transformative irrigation project in Damaturu, Yobe State.
The project, located in the Pompomari area, is being executed in partnership with Dederi Investment Limited under the leadership of Dr. Babagana Mohammed Adam. It is designed to significantly boost dry-season farming, enhance food security, and mitigate recurrent flooding challenges that have long plagued the region.
Governor Buni, who personally inspected the project recently, reaffirmed his administration’s determination to provide permanent solutions to environmental challenges and promote sustainable agriculture. “We are committed to safeguarding lives and livelihoods by improving our farming systems and ensuring the safety of our communities,” he declared.
The irrigation system will directly benefit hundreds of local farmers, particularly those cultivating high-demand crops such as cucumbers, onions, sweet potatoes, rice, tomatoes, watermelons, wheat, and more. The initiative is expected to revive farmlands, increase productivity, and create thousands of jobs across Yobe State.
Residents have widely welcomed the project, seeing it as a timely intervention that aligns with Governor Buni’s broader vision of economic revitalization and rural development.
With this bold initiative, Governor Buni continues to demonstrate his proactive leadership and deep understanding of grassroots needs, reinforcing his legacy as a builder of a prosperous and resilient Yobe.
