Governor Umar Namadi has reaffirmed his administration’s proactive approach to fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders in Jigawa State, ensuring that both groups benefit from structured mediation and development initiatives.

Speaking during his visit to the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development in Abuja, Governor Namadi highlighted the effectiveness of the Jigawa Farmers and Herdsmen Board, a strategic body established to resolve conflicts and promote agricultural stability.

“We have created a Farmers and Herdsmen Board to ensure harmonious relations between these critical stakeholders in our agricultural sector. This initiative has been successful in preventing exploitation and fostering mutual understanding,” the governor stated.

Governor Namadi also emphasized the state’s investments in livestock development, citing key infrastructure such as the Maigatari livestock market and the expansion of grazing reserves to support herders and boost economic activities.

“The government has gazetted 54 grazing reserves, with nearly 60 to 70 reserves already established. These areas are equipped with water points and necessary protection to ensure sustainable use by both farmers and herders. This has significantly improved relationships between the two groups and strengthened agricultural productivity,” he explained.

The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, commended Jigawa State’s model approach to conflict resolution and livestock management, urging other states to emulate its success.

“Governor Namadi’s administration has taken proactive steps in livestock development and conflict resolution, setting a commendable example for others to follow,” the minister noted.

Governor Namadi’s leadership continues to position Jigawa State as a benchmark in agriculture-driven economic transformation and peace-building efforts.
