Governor Namadi Strengthens Economic Ties with Nigeria Institute of Leather Science and Technology

Governor Mallam Umar Namadi has reaffirmed Jigawa State’s commitment to economic diversification and industrial growth through a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Institute of Leather Science and Technology (NILEST).
During a courtesy visit to the Government House, the Institute’s Director-General, Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, provided insights into NILEST’s pivotal role in advancing leather technology since its establishment in 1964. He emphasized the institute’s mandate to drive research, innovation, and capacity building in leather production, a sector with significant economic potential.
Dr. Imam outlined the institute’s plans to collaborate with the Jigawa State Government, including the establishment of a specialized training center aimed at enhancing skills development and boosting local leather manufacturing.
Governor Namadi commended the institute’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the leather industry, acknowledging its capacity to generate employment, stimulate exports, and contribute to Jigawa’s economic expansion. He assured the delegation of his administration’s willingness to support initiatives that enhance value addition in the sector.
The collaboration between Jigawa State and NILEST signals a renewed focus on industrialization, job creation, and the harnessing of indigenous resources to strengthen the state’s economic foundation.
