Governor Oborevwori: Championing Workers’ Welfare Amid Economic Challenges
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers, describing them as the cornerstone of the state’s development. Speaking through his Deputy, Mr. Monday Onyeme, during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration in Asaba, the governor praised the resilience and hard work of civil servants, teachers, healthcare workers, artisans, and entrepreneurs across the state.
Governor Oborevwori highlighted various interventions under his M.O.R.E. Agenda that have placed workers at the heart of governance. These include prompt salary and pension payments, clearing of pension arrears, and the introduction of skill-enhancement training programs. His administration has also revitalized healthcare centres, renovated schools, empowered artisans through entrepreneurship schemes, and invested in infrastructure to ease transport and boost commerce.
The governor described the 2025 May Day theme, “Reclaiming the Civic Space amid Economic Hardship,” as a timely call for civic engagement and collective resolve. He urged workers to remain steadfast and collaborative, assuring them that policies to ease economic pressures are being actively pursued. “We are working to ensure a Delta where every worker is valued, empowered, and rewarded,” he said. The event also featured a colourful parade and a joint address by NLC and TUC leaders, who commended the state government’s support for workers despite prevailing challenges.
