Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has called for strong federal government support to advance livestock development in the state. The appeal came during a strategic stakeholder engagement session held in Lokoja, organized by the Kogi State Ministry of Livestock Development in collaboration with the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee.

Represented by Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo disclosed that the state had partnered with an agricultural technology firm to pioneer mechanized feedstock production across key zones. He requested a federal allocation of N7 billion to establish enabling infrastructure and logistics to attract major investors like JBS Brazil. He also urged the committee to prioritize Kogi in all livestock innovation programs and technical support initiatives, citing the state’s strategic location and strong political will.

The Co-Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Attahiru Jega (represented by Secretary Prof. Yahaya Kuta), pledged partnership with Kogi State to actualize its livestock goals, praising the governor for establishing a dedicated Ministry for Livestock Development. The stakeholder meeting featured high-level deliberations, visits to potential sites, and workshops, positioning Kogi State as a frontrunner in Nigeria’s livestock reform agenda. Governor Ododo’s active pursuit of investment and innovation is expected to drive food security, job creation, and inclusive economic growth across the state.
