Governor Otu Champions Tech-Driven Future as First Lady’s STEM Initiative Graduates 10th Cohort
Governor Bassey Otu’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and digital innovation has once again been demonstrated through the 10th graduation ceremony of the Bishop Eyoanwan’s STEM Project—an initiative led by the First Lady of Cross River State, Bishop Dr. (Mrs.) Eyoanwan Bassey Otu. The program, which began in 2023 in partnership with the Guru Innovation Hub, has successfully trained 5,018 children, empowering them with essential digital skills in coding, graphic design, and game development.
The landmark 10th cohort, themed the Easter Bootcamp, was hosted at the University of Cross River State, Calabar, and for the first time, included both boys and girls aged 10 to 16. This inclusive approach reflects the expanding vision of the initiative to reach even more young minds across the state’s three senatorial districts.
Representing the First Lady at the graduation ceremony, Press Secretary Faith Okon-Egbujiem emphasized the long-term goal of the initiative: “This moment marks not just the completion of a program but the beginning of a journey built on knowledge, innovation, and the courage to dream.”
Encouraging the graduates, Bishop Otu noted, “You have shown resilience, creativity, and a willingness to lead. Let your passion ignite innovation in your communities.”
Applauding the government’s support, Mr. Oku Okon Oku, a key partner of the project, remarked, “STEM is the future, and the future starts now. Cross River State cannot be caught napping. This program is closing knowledge gaps in tech and inspiring young minds early.”
Guru Innovation Hub’s team lead, Mr. Oyo Effiom, lauded the success of the program in transforming lives across LGAs, especially with the new inclusion of boys. “It’s been a tremendous experience. We are witnessing lives being changed,” he stated.
The event was crowned with heartfelt appreciation from parents and presentation of certificates to the young innovators. The success of this initiative is a testament to Governor Otu’s inclusive governance and the First Lady’s dedication to building a tech-savvy generation in Cross River State.
